[Free] Pattern: Cuffed Wristwarmers

This pattern was up for sale on my Ravelry page for a little while.  Since I won’t be focusing on creating new patterns, I figured, why not just put it up for free?  So here it is :)  Enjoy!

[Free] Pattern: Legwarmers

This pattern is from my original post on Feb 22, 2010 for Thing-A-Day #22.

Over a year ago, I saw a simple legwarmer pattern in a book at Purl Soho. The pattern was this:

Cast on 56 stitches. K2, P2 all around and bind off when happy with length. This would make something I’d seen in stores already. But I didn’t want something I’d seen. A mass produced item would’ve been more expensive (this project was about 1 skein worth, $7.50) but it would’ve taken a lot less time to obtain :)

What I wanted was something that would flare out at the bottom so it can go over my boots as well as be long enough to cover most of my shins. I’d keep seeing one or the other. Long legwarmers that abruptly stop at the ankle or short ones that go well over booties. Just needed to mix the two up and make it in a color to match my existing hat.

The Mellow Legwarmers pattern

Materials
1 skein of Cascade 220 wool yarn
4 DPNs size 8

Pattern
CO 56 stitches
(CO number needs to be divisible by 4; adjust to size accordingly)
Rows 1-60: (K2, P2) til end of row
Row 61: (K1, M1, P2) til end of row
Row 62-71: K3, P2
Row 72: Bind off. Wear. Do “Maniac” dance.*

* optional

Addendum

These legwarmers are meant for moderately sized calves and were a little loose on me.  If you have smaller calves like mine, I’d suggest going down 8 stitches or knit with size 7 needles for a tighter gauge. I also think weaving ribbon through the top would work to keep them from slipping.

[Free] Pattern: 3×3 Scarf

I recently “published” a pattern on Ravelry called Eton’s Scarf. It’s free of charge and uses a simple basketweave pattern.

Since then, I have modified the pattern to have a more defined “weave” look with a nice border. The original was a 2×2 basketweave w/ no borders. This is a 3×3 basketweave with a 3 stitch garter border.

It’s a classic pattern so it’s adaptable for guys and girls (a tip: use solid, darker colors for the dudes. you have a little more color freedom for girls).

Pattern:

Yarn: Classic by Ella Rae (100% wool yarn; worsted/10 ply; a cheaper alternative to Cascade 220)
Needles: Size 8
Dimensions of finished scarf: Appox 5′ long and 6″ wide.

Cast on 36 stitches. (You can make it narrower/shorter by using another number divisible by 6)

Rows 1-4: K36

Rows 5, 6, 7: K3, (K3, P3) 5x, K3
Rows 8, 9, 10: K3, (P3, K3) 5x, K3

Repeat these 6 rows til happy with length of scarf.

Last 4 rows: K36

You can find it on Ravelry under “Three by Three Scarf

[Free] Pattern: Eton’s Scarf

Pattern: Eton’s Scarf

Yarn: Cascade 220 (100% wool yarn; worsted/10 ply)
Needles
: Size 8 (5mm)
Dimensions
: Appox 5′ long and 6″ wide.

Cast on 36 stitches. You can make it narrower/wider by using a number divisible by 4.

* For a cleaner edge, slip the first stitch of every row *

Row 1&2: (K2, P2) – repeat til end of row.
Row 3&4: (P2, K2) – repeat til end of row.

Repeat til happy with length of scarf.

Pretty simple, eh? It makes for some great train knitting while listening to music and/or podcasts.

P.S. Thank you to everyone out there who’s been reading my blog this year. You guys definitely keep me writing – it’s nice to know you’re not writing into the ether…

Addendum: It took me a month to finish this scarf since I put it down and picked it up several times. Otherwise, it should take no longer than a week or two – depends on your knitting speed.

Addendum #2: For a cool looking chunky cowl with this pattern, you can double up 2 worsted yarns (creates a nice marble pattern) with size 15 needles.  You can knit it flat and sew up or crochet the edges together.
