SXSW & Yarn: Banners

It's a few hours before liftoff and I just got my luggage out. Talk about last minute packing, eh? There's something very calming about doing it at 3am. It gives you a little quiet time to think, write, and perhaps write a post ;)
This upcoming trip brings me back to Austin, TX. I'm not all about finding a cowboy this time though (wasn't very successful at that the first time hah). Last visit was for Maker Faire. This time it's SXSW - South by Southwest. A huge music, film and interactive conference. Considering I have limited vacation days due to say oh.. work and a thing called thesis.. I had to cut my trip down to 4 days and will be seeing the Interactive portion. I'm pretty psyched about it. It's one huge geek fest + lots of booze + partying. What could be better?!
I hear BUST magazine will be there and hosting a day long crafting + relaxing booth. I won't ramble too much now and will fill in details as the days progress.

Btw, I've never bought KnitPicks yarns but this ad from Ravelry is making me both hungry and craving something sweet.. like a yummy shade of alpaca yarn.. :-p

Catch ya soon dudes and dudettes.

Crafty Weekend #1: Etsy's 2nd Bday & Renegade Craft Fair

This entry has been a long way coming but I've been so busy that I haven't had time to take pictures while there's still daylight outside (I can barely wake up in time to make it to work as it is). [to note how late this entry is, these events took place on June 15 & 16]

Welp, I just wanted to share some photos with you from the events. The following is the black Etsy bag all the partiers got with goodies inside. I, being the klutz that I am, left mine in the taxi cab while traveling from that party to a friend's birthday party. While at Renegade Craft Fair, the Etsy crew was nice enough to give me another one :D

The party was awesome. We (Haasome, Kat, our friend Chris and I) had some pizza, Brooklyn lager and were too full to venture out and eat some cake. There was also a pinata broken which my friend Kat was brave enough to go see and bring back goodies. We chatted with Haim, one of the Etsy admins, and had some good laughs.

The necklace in the picture is from Imogene, whose booth I visited at Renegade Fair. It has become of my favorite pieces of jewelry - vintage key on brass necklace, it's so purdy :)

While at Renegade, Haasome and I stopped by the Adorn Magazine booth as we were about to leave. We figured, hey, why not and sign up for their raffle since it's happening in 15 minutes anyway? Well I was very lucky to be one of the 20 something winners. Eee! I, of course, needed more yarn.. (sarcasm goes here). Hehe, but I can't complain. I love the colors and they're perfect for winter knitting since they're wool yarns. I had been meaning to get some fabric glue and some bigger knitting needles so I'm so glad to have gotten this goodie bag! There's a hole puncher, a book on crochet scarves, ribbons and a few other things. Pretty sweet, eh?

Markers, Warmers, Cozies; an Insomniac Posting

I've been really slacking lately with updating this bloggy of mine. For the record, I'd like to officially (or not so officially) give it the title "a blog of blogging bloggable events".

Now that we're done with introductions, it's picture time! I hope you don't mind the crappy lighting and probably not so focused 4am picture-taking skills of mine but here goes... and be prepared, it's gonna be a long one..

So I had this huge craving to buy some silver and metallic markers today. I decided to go to my nearby art store (and btw, when was it renamed from The Art Store [coolest name ever] to "Blick"?? blech.) Anyway, I go there and find out that the only metallic painter's markers they offer are silver and gold colored, how original. I'll have to seek out Pearl Paint for some more options.

I've also been working on getting all my custom orders out (the ones I mentioned in the very first blog, oh so long ago). I finally finished making the brown warmers for BeadGal from Etsy (beadgaldesigns.etsy.com) They came out very pretty even in their simplicity.

And last but not least, I've decided to make some more cozies but this time for iPod nanos. Not exactly being "hip" about iPods, I had to consult my resident Apple expert (or rather, one who lives a few blocks away) and I've been so informed that nanos are the big thing. I'll most likely never get an iPod because I just refuse to be one of Apple's army.. too many white headphones, too little time to whack people. Anyway. Here are 2 cozies I've come up with so far. They dont have their buttons so they look a little funny and I've rethought my original design to have a more robust button hole which happens to make it curl all funny-like. The good news is that I found out I could make a cozy in a train ride and with enough time to spare a look around at people pretending not to be staring at me. :)

That is all for now. Still in big preparations (or not such big preparations..) for the The BIG Art Show

Keep your calendars marked for this event where I (from Mellowbeing's Shop) and Jessica (from Haasome Goods) will be selling the products handmade madness!

p.s. I just noticed I use a lot of parentheses in my writing.. (oh well).
